ELO ‘Alone in the universe’ Tour.
ELO’s space-age harmonics have influenced the Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals and Daft Punk. Daft Punk not only sampled ELO, they named their 2001 Discovery album in partial tribute to ELO’s 1979 Discovery album, bringing the vocoder sound back into popular music. I was commissioned by legendary UK lighting designer Tim Routledge to provide content for the shows and have been doing so since 2016. The overall look was very much inspired by airbrush artists like Chris Foss and John Harris, plus Shusei Nagaoka, who created the band’s heavily SCI FI influenced album images. I’ve really enjoyed the chance to really push these fantasy art looks. It’s been a great introduction to Lynne’s work for me, some truly unique pop and some extremely beautiful orchestrations. The show culminated in a huge sold out Wembley show as recorded on the DVD ‘Wembley or Bust’.
